Design Brief
You have just invested your money into a block of land and the building of a shop which will be situated in a busy shopping centre of our class town. Your shop will be 12 metres deep and 6 metres wide. You are to include a storage area within this space, this area should be situated at the back of the shop and be 4 metres deep and 6 metres wide. The design of the shop will involve 2 drawings.
- A floor plan including storage and customer area. showing the arrangement of furniture and space.
- A 3D model of the shop created using Google Sketchup
You will also be required to create a walkthrough animation of your shop interior which will give your client a good understanding of what the shop will look like before it is built.
Process for designing your shop
- Choose the type of shop you wish to design, this could be any type of shop from a sports shop to a pet shop. Brainstorm and come up with a name for your shop.
- Make a list of all the items that will need to be included in your shop. eg. furniture, counter, shelving etc.
- Next to the list of items write down the dimensions (sizes) of each of the objects.
- Using Adobe Illustrator create a scaled down plan drawing of your shop. The shop should be drawn to scale. The scale is 2cm = 1 metre.
- Next to the plan drawing of your shop in Adobe Illustrator, draw up the plan view of the items that will go in your shop, they should be drawn to scale. The scale is 2cm = 1 metre.
- Now experiment with placing these items onto your floor plan grid. Make sure you take into consideration how people will move around the shop, where they walk, stand or sit. Consider the requirements for the shape and size of various areas, and the positioning of exits, entrances, walls and furniture.
- Note: There is a restriction on where the entrance of your shop will be located, it must be situated on the 6 metre side of your shop.
- Save and printout your final shop plan.
3D Model
- Using google sketchup you are to use the floor plan created previously in Adobe Illustrator as a basis for building up a 3D model of your shop.
- The shop must be created to the correct scale and proportion.
- Using the appropriate tools within google sketchup create the "shell" of the shop putting in all walls, doors and windows, leaving the roof off at this stage.
- Now that you have the "shell" of the shop, create your own furniture or use resources from the 3d warehouse to furnish your shop.
- Apply an appropriate colour scheme to your shop using a colour scheme that relates to the corporate identity of the shop logo that you have completed in your "shop logo design" assessment task.
- Add any signage to the shop as well as your corporate logo that you have previously designed.
