Designers in Industry Project (Due 2/8/2013)

You are to complete a report on a designer who is in the same field of design as your Major Design Project (MDP).

  1. Describe each of the steps involved in the design process from initial idea (for example, contact with the client, idea inspiration, identification of market opportunity) to the final product explaining how each step influences the next stage in the process.
  2. In your MDP you must provide evidence of creativity, ensuring that your project stands out from the others. Outline the creative and innovative design practices used by your designer and outline how you might emulate these to help you be creative with your design.
  3. Compare your design process to the designer above. Identify good practices that you can emulate in your design project. Consider the different tools, techniques materials and resources available. Explain how these may influence the outcome of the final product and your design process.
  4. Identify any areas of the design process where the designer works collaboratively with others and explain what collaboration takes place and why collaboration is vital to the design process.
  5. Consider your design project and compare the processes you followed and those that would be used in a comparable commercial industrial setting.
  6. Outline the safe work principles that your chosen designer follows within their work place and which you should abide by when developing your MDP
  7. Explain how you implemented safe work practices when selecting materials and techniques in the design and production of your MDP.
